Honestly, this whole "do nothing alll day" thing is getting exhausting. Thankfully, my summer job starts this Saturday! aka lifeguarding/ dive coaching/ swim instructing at Shepherd pool. This year i have been promoted to HEAD DIVE COACH. so exciting. really. Working at the pool is my favorite thing ever. why?
What i should say: i love teaching kids how to swim and dive while guarding lives during public hours of swim.
HOWEVER,
there are five REAL things that make my job interesting:
5. The ridiculous parents that falsely presume that since they are paying a whopping sixty dollars to have their child learn to dive, they should be headed to the olympic trials at the close of the summer.
4. Pool friends= best friends and my only friends for two months.. it is highly unlikely to hang out in the off season until we will be best friends again the next summer. (unwritten lifeguard rule)
3. "Pool Rats." aka the kids that are dropped of every day at our pool at the exact second we open until we close (sometimes after) because it is the only six hours a day that their parents can get rid of them. Personally, i don't blame them. Pool rats are those kids that are extremely obnoxious and think they can hang in the office and eat our otter pops. get real. Nevertheless, lifeguards can use these pool rats for their own personal slave or entertainment (usually they will do the dumb things everyone else is too smart to do)
2. After hours. We get to do all the things anyone would want to do at a pool without lifeguards telling us not to slide+ sunscreen= :]
1. Swim Lessons. Seriously sometimes i wonder who raised half the children that are in my classes. If it's not the rat tail hairdo they have or the fact that they come attached to a leash or even the fact that they have endless amounts of snot running down their faces, chances are they are the one kid in the class that swim instructors actually enjoy teaching. I have the tendency to get a class full of obnoxious crying/screaming kids that have parents that look at me like "have fun with that you idiot." Those same parents are typically the ones that don't care what you do with their children, as long as you babysit the for the entire thirty minutes, not a minute less, and therefore, makes my lessons more enjoyable.. for everybody in the pool area.
clearly, i can't wait.
